Rebuilding My Devotional Life in Christ Jesus
John 14
RHEMA
The Spirit of Truth
“1Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know. 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. — 15 “If you love Me, [d]keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [e]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:1-6; 15-18
Throughout His ministry, Jesus would do and say life altering things that proved His sonship, humanity, divinity, and love for the people of God. In this moment in time Jesus wanted to get the point across that walking with Him was the same experience as walking with the Father because of the oneness they shared. He even goes as far as to say that He is “the way, the truth, and the life” and the only way to the Father (which He is). In this we see how heavy a responsibility Jesus carried: to reflect and reveal the Father to a world that only knew Him as a creator at best. Later in the chapter, Jesus requires that we obey His commandments [John 14:34-35] so that we receive a Helper that can be referred to as the Spirit of Truth. He would be with us and in us; assuring us that we would not be Fatherless children (orphans).
Jesus declared that He was the Truth and He promised the Spirit of Truth would come to dwell in us. He also promised that He would not leave us as orphans but would come to us again. In that moment, Jesus revealed the power of His presence in our lives through the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, that now dwells in us. This speaks to the legitimacy of our sonship in Christ. Just as the Son came to bear witness of the Father, the Spirit of Truth now bears witness of the Son. Now we can know the Father and have the Father dwelling in us.
Even as you conquer Day 14 understand that there are many challenges but He that is in you has made you the very image of the Son who overcame this world. Child of God, you are more than a conqueror through the one who dwells within you.
